Join us for a full weekend of camping & Georgia Heritage as we visit the largest “Blackwater” swamp in North America, the Okefenokee Swamp.  This shallow peat-filled wetland is considered one of Georgia’s seven Natural Wonders.  We will also visit Cumberland Island, one of Georgia’s barrier islands steeped in history with Spanish missions in the 16th century and James Oglethorpe laying out two Forts in the 1780’s.  Many prestigious families called Cumberland Island home including Nathaniel Greene, Robert Stafford and the Carnegie's.  Come along for history, adventure, and unmatched scenery.

The 2015 Big-Outing is a two day excursion to Cumberland Island and the Okefenokee Swamp October 9 - 12.  This outing includes the following activities:

  • Friday
  • Saturday
    • Travel to St. Mary's, GA and tour Cumberland Island National Seashore Museum, and Submarine Museum
    • Take the Cumberland Queen Ferry to Cumberland Island (space limited so book early)
  • Sunday 
    • Tour Okefenokee Swamp via 90 minute guided boat tour into the swamp
    • Tour Okefenokee visitor's center, boardwalk and nature trails
  • All meals included

This trip will occur rain or shine.


When:    October 9 - 11 (No school 10/9 & 10/12)


Cost:     $89 per person.
             Includes registration fees, food camping and all tours.

Cancellation policy: Cancellations may occur up to September 26, 2015.  There is a 16% non-refundable fee to the Cumberland Island Ferry.  After September 26, no refunds are permitted.
